Customer Review 07/06/2018

CookEatHappy

As many of you know, I’m a keen gardener as well as a greedy foodie. Imagine my joy then of recently discovering a fantastic local charity-run garden centre & café – Spadework.

Based in Offham, Kent – Spadework provides over 90 adults with learning and other disabilities the opportunity to learn new skills and gain work experience. Trainees are involved in many roles; from helping to grow the plants sold in the garden centre, to making some of the cakes and chutneys served in the Café, (which boasts seating for 50, as well as some outdoor seating if you’re lucky enough to have great weather!)

During our last visit we opted for the Mediterranean Sharing Platter (pictured), which was really good. The walnut and raisin bread, teamed with the feta and Parma ham really stood out. Portion size was perfect for the two of us and at £14.90, was good value for money (we were stuffed!)

The garden centre has a wide selection of plants and gardening products, all of which are very reasonably priced. I got all of my bedding plants and the most lovely hanging basket on my last visit – which barely fit in the car!

The atmosphere at Spadework is relaxed and welcoming which allows for easy interaction between the Trainees and the general public.

It’s clear to see why Spadework has been such a successful project for over 30 years and long may it’s success continue.

Horticulture Latest

It’s still not too late for Summer Bulbs and seed potatoes, now reduced in the Garden Centre.

Come along and have a look at our collection of tree lilies, tree lilies are the breathtaking result of years of painstaking breeding. Tree lilies can grow as tall as 2.5m (8ft) in two years and will take on a shrub-like appearance over the years.

The sturdy stalks are almost 5cm (2”) thick, so they won’t need supporting and the foliage remains lush all season. It couldn’t be easier. Grow them through shrubs in borders, against walls and fences, or in large pots for the patio, and let them look after themselves.

Add texture form and colour to your borders with our extensive range of grasses, ferns and perennials, a great way of adding some exotic and ornamental feel to the garden. Suitable for growing in borders, patios and in ornamental gardens.

Have fun with our pots and planters

Come and see the new APTA lighter Courtyard Range. Lightweight planters with an amazing authentic stone finish.

OFFHAM MAY DAY EVENT

Secure off road parking spaces available at Spadework for over 140 cars during the Offham May Day Event. £5.00 per car between 10am and 4pm. Gates will close at 4pm so please collect your vehicles before this time as the gates will not reopen until 9.30am the next day.

Cafe

An excellent opportunity has arisen to rent a fully equipped, 40-cover cafe/tea room at weekends from 9:00am until 3:00 pm. The cafe, which also has outside seating for around 30 people in a garden courtyard, is set in a beautiful five-acre garden centre and market garden, in an affluent area, close to West Malling and Kings Hill, and within easy reach of Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. Very reasonable terms, with no up-front costs. Contact Richard Perton richard@spadework.org.uk for more information.
