 Café Cook / Front of House Coordinator

Reporting to: Café Operations Coordinator

Salary: £17,264 (pro-rata for P/T)

Job LocationBased at Offham West Malling, Kent

Spadework is a local charity which provides life skills training and work experience for over 90 adults with learning difficulties and disabilities in a commercial yet supportive environment.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, friendly person, preferably with catering and hospitality experience and a passion for good food, to work in our Cafe. Ideally, you will be a competent cook able to work in a busy kitchen, with an interest in passing on food, cooking and customer service skills to our Trainees (adults with learning and other disabilities). There may also be a requirement for you to assist in the production of our jams, chutneys and relishes and to support our Trainees in other food preparation tasks.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To support and assist in the supervision and training of a group of adults with learning disabilities
  • To participate in food preparation tasks
  • To cook, create and deliver high quality menu options to both the paying public, our Staff and our Trainees.
  • To design and implement new and exciting menu options and specials.
  • To serve customers, offering a high level of customer service, ensuring customer requests are dealt with in an efficient and professional manner
  • To be assist with stock control and re-ordering
  • To be responsible for stock rotation and ensuring correct storage, to keep the stock well presented, in good condition and within date, and to reduce wastage
  • To be responsible for reconciling cash/cheques/card sales at the end of the shift
  • Keeping records including recording and checking of temperatures, and following cleaning schedule ensuring high standards at all times
  • To calculate prices and ensure that correct sale prices are applied to all new stock in accordance with the mark-up guidelines set out by the Café & Farm Shop Manager
  • To help maintain good relationships with our suppliers and pass on ideas and opportunities for new product lines to the Café & Farm Shop Manager
  • To attend staff meetings, open days and other special events as required
  • To observe, deliver, continually promote and act in accordance with the Charity’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care policies and procedures
  • To positively comply with Charity’s policies, procedures and systems ensuring compliance with the needs of legal, regulatory and statutory bodies as well as with best practice principles
  • To take responsibility, as an employee within the Charity, for Health and Safety ensuring full compliance with the law, HSE guidelines and Spadework’s policies and procedures;
  • To undertake other tasks as reasonably required in order to meet the varying demands of the Charity.
  • To work in the Farm Shop / Food Prep Kitchen to cover holiday and sickness.

This will be a 30 hour a week contract, with a view to working one day at the weekend and 4 days during the week (job share considered, other part time hours and work patterns considered.

Cafe Volunteer

We are hoping to find a Volunteer to work within our Charity Cafe, either Front of House or in the Kitchen.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, friendly person, preferably with catering and hospitality experience and a passion for good food, to work in our Cafe.

Ideally, you will be a competent cook able to work in a busy kitchen, with an interest in passing on food, cooking and customer service skills to our Trainees (adults with learning and other disabilities).

General Assistant / Cleaner

Salary: £16,286.40 (pro-rata for P/T)

Job LocationBased at Offham West Malling, Kent

Spadework is a local charity which provides life skills training and work experience for over 90 adults with learning difficulties and disabilities in a commercial yet supportive environment.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, friendly person, preferably with cleaning experience to provide a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the site, while developing routines to ensure all areas of the site are maintained to a high standard.

Main Duties

  • Keep clean the Trainee kitchen and mess room including floors, work surfaces, electrical appliances, tiles, sinks, walls, woodwork, windows, tables and chairs.
  • To keep the toilet areas clean including toilets, wash hand basins, floors, tiles, walls, woodwork and windows. Replace toilet rolls and paper towels as required.
  • Tidy, dust and clean the office areas.
  • Keep tidy and clean the computer room.
  • Vacuum all carpets.
  • Keep a check on cleaning materials and re-order via the Manager.
  • Lock and unlock the building securely and set and unset the alarms.
  • To observe, deliver, continually promote and act in accordance with the Charity’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care policies and procedures;
  • To positively comply with Organisation’s policies, procedures and systems ensuring compliance with the needs of legal, regulatory and statutory bodies as well as with best practice principles;
  • To take responsibility as a staff member within the Charity for Health and Safety ensuring full compliance with the law, HSE guidelines and Spadework’s policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required from time to time.

This will be an 8 hour a week contract, Wednesday – Saturday (job share considered, other part time hours and work patterns considered.
